Our Hometown

Your Local Tree Care Crew in Carnation

Carnation sits right in the heart of the Snoqualmie Valley, where the Tolt River meets the Snoqualmie, and it is where Haskins Tree Care is based. When you call us, you are not getting a franchise crew driving in from three counties over. You are getting a local team that knows this valley, its trees, and its weather, and has been working these properties for over a decade.

The valley has its own character. Properties here range from in-town lots near downtown Carnation to large rural acreage, hobby farms, and wooded parcels along Tolt Hill Road and the upland edges. The towering firs and cedars that make this area beautiful are also the ones that come down in a windstorm. We tailor every job to the property in front of us.

Brock Haskins is on-site for nearly every job, which means owner-level care from the first walk-through to final cleanup.

What We Do in Carnation

Our Tree Services in Carnation

Whether it is a single hazardous fir or a full property cleanup, our crew handles it. Here is what we offer Carnation property owners, and why each one matters here specifically.

Tree Trimming & Pruning

Bigleaf maples are everywhere in the valley, and their wide canopies take a beating from wet snow and ice loads. Regular crown thinning and deadwood removal reduces limb-failure risk before a storm finds the weak spots. We also handle structural pruning for fruit and ornamental trees, with no topping, ever, in keeping with Carnation's tree code.

Stump Grinding

After a tree comes down, the stump does not have to stay. We grind stumps below grade to clear tripping hazards and free up your yard, from a single backyard stump to cleanup after clearing rural acreage.

Hazard Tree Removal

Black cottonwood is the dominant floodplain tree along the Tolt and Snoqualmie rivers, and King County's own native plant guide warns to keep it away from structures because it is known to break. It grows fast, often more than four feet a year, and the wood turns brittle as the tree matures. Aging red alder stands are also reaching the end of their natural life across the valley. If you have a leaning, cracked, or storm-damaged tree, we assess and remove it before it causes damage.

Close Quarters Removal

In-town lots near downtown Carnation and along the Snoqualmie Valley Trail often put big trees right up against homes, fences, and power lines. When there is no room to drop a tree, our crew uses technical rigging and precision cutting to bring it down piece by piece without touching your property.

Chipping

We chip and haul all brush, branches, and debris from every job. Our commercial chippers process material on-site, and we can leave the chips for your landscaping or haul them away.

24/7 Emergency Response

Carnation's storm season runs October through March, with wind funneling down the valley and the rivers regularly flooding the valley floor. Trees come down on homes, driveways, and power lines, and they do not wait for business hours. Our emergency crew is available around the clock, every day of the year.

Local Knowledge

Tree Care Built for the Snoqualmie Valley

The trees that thrive in Carnation bring their own challenges, and a few are worth knowing about as a property owner here.

Western Red Cedar Dieback

Western red cedar dieback is an active forest-health concern across western Washington. WSU's Urban Forest Health Lab and Washington DNR have documented the symptoms: thinning canopies, top dieback, flagging branches, and yellow-brown foliage, tied to warmer, drier summers. If a cedar on your property is showing top dieback, it is worth an assessment.

Bigleaf Maple Decline

Documented across western Washington since around 2010 by WSU, DNR, and University of Washington researchers, bigleaf maple decline shows up as yellow flagging of large branches, partial to full crown dieback, and reduced leaf size. Trees near roads and development are hit harder.

Flood-Stressed Roots

The valley floor floods most years between October and March, often more than once. Repeated saturation stresses root systems, and even drought-tolerant uplanders like Douglas fir suffer progressive root decline on lower-valley properties.

A working knowledge of the Pacific Northwest is part of doing this job right here. Our crew assesses lean, soil conditions, and proximity to structures before any cut. If you have a tree you are unsure about, an honest assessment from an experienced arborist is the cheapest insurance you can buy.

Permits & Regulations

Do You Need a Permit to Remove a Tree in Carnation?

If your property is inside Carnation city limits, tree removal is governed by the city's tree code, updated by Ordinance 24-996 in 2024. A few things to know:

A Significant Tree is any tree 6 inches in diameter at breast height or larger. Removing one generally requires a permit.

Under Carnation Municipal Code 15.76.110, removing a Significant Tree generally requires planting three replacement trees for each tree removed in most residential and mixed-use zones. A few zones, including the central business district, have no replacement requirement.

Replacement trees must meet minimum sizes: roughly 2-inch caliper for deciduous trees or 6 feet tall for evergreens, and cannot be a noxious-weed species.

Topping is treated as a non-standard, prohibited practice. We do not top trees.

Damaged or hazardous trees may be handled differently, but that generally requires a written report from a registered arborist with the city's concurrence.

If your property is in unincorporated King County rather than the city, the city ordinance does not apply. King County's own critical-areas code governs instead. Most properties around Carnation actually fall into this category, and the distinction trips up a lot of homeowners.

City Permit Contact For city permit questions, the City of Carnation Planning Department can be reached at (425) 333-4192 or permits@carnationwa.gov. We are glad to walk you through what we know, but you should always confirm requirements for your specific property and address.
